A Bit About Me.
Who I am.
Hi, my name is Jill Metcalfe and I live in Queensland, Australia. I’m different things to different people; I’m a wife, a mum (a fur baby), grandmother, step-mum, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. I’m also neurodiverse; but more on that later.
Author.
I’m an avid reader and an unashamed bibliophile. I don’t think I’d last a day without a book to read. They line my bookshelves and are my friends.
Artist.
I’m an avid photographer – I’ve been called a ‘nuisance with a camera’ on occasions. I don’t apologise for this. I’ve taken thousands of photos of many special occasions. Looking back, I’m glad I did.
I’m an artist, working mainly with watercolour, gouache and acrylic. I also love to sketch.
I’m not sure what else you’d like to know about me… oh hang on I’d better explain my neurodiversity!
Neurodiverse.
In my 40’s I was diagnosed with mild Tourette’s Syndrome. It was a light bulb moment. I’d always felt different and that diagnosis gave me a reason for my eccentricities.
I come from a unique, intelligent, witty, fun loving and hard-working family. I didn’t realise how neurodiverse I personally was until my diagnosis. Sure, it’s okay to feel you’re different, but sometimes it’s hard work trying to fit in, to not appear different.
In my life, I’ve met some incredibly inspirational and brave people with moderate to severe Tourette’s Syndrome. They are my heroes.
Anyway, if you want to know more about me, ask me and if I can I’ll answer you honestly.
I also hope that through my writing you gain an understanding of neurodiversity and how it can be accepted and valued.
